Sure is a metroidvania, with the backtracking and the scouring for the next clue, but the automap is enough if you just want to do the main quest. Some of the puzzles are mysterious, one is damnably inscrutable (letters levers in the sewer).

I played this for an hour, and having had a good old think about it; I hated it.
Sure the NES aesthetic is nice, the controls aren't terrible and I quite enjoyed the music, but it's just too darn abstruse to be enjoyable. The tag of being a Metroidvania
